Junkyard Youth Group

Welcome to Junkyard!

Junkyard is home to every 6th through 12th-grade student who has a desire to be loved, learn about God, grow in their faith, and have fun while doing it.

Our mission is to fulfill our commitment to worshipping God in four simple steps:
1.) By serving Him every day
2.) By learning about Him every day
3.) By helping build connections through intentional relationships
4.) By loving every student regardless of their circumstances.

We can’t wait to meet you!

NEW this Year

Prepaid Cafe Punch Card

On the 2nd Wednesday of every month, the Ridge Cafe will be at Junkyard serving a few drink options. Last year, we learned students don't always have money with them to get a drink if they want, so we came up with a way to prepay for drinks!

Introducing, the Junkyard Ridge Cafe Prepaid Punch Card!
Use the below button to purchase this card for 45 dollars which covers the cost of 9 drinks, and the 10th one is free! The punch card will be kept in the Ridge Cafe, so students don't even have to remember to bring it. Just get in line, give the barista your name, and ask for a drink!

*This card can be used on Wednesday Nights and Sunday mornings at the Ridge Cafe. Got questions? Reach out to  Paige.

Yearly Events

The Junkyard calendar runs alongside the Ankeny School District calendar and is full of fun and engaging programs. Throughout the year, Junkyard offers retreats, local serving opportunities, game nights and spiritual growth events.

Wednesday Nights

Get Connected. Go Deeper.

Every week, students in 6th through 12th grade meet at The Ridge for fun games, worship, and biblical teaching. The 6th through 8th graders meet from 6:15 pm to 7:30 pm. The 9th through 12th graders meet from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm.
Junkyard provides a great atmosphere where all students are welcomed, loved, and cared for. We value relationships and offer a time for discussions after the teaching where students can go deeper by asking important questions and seeking advice.

If you’re coming for the first time, you’ll enter in through the South doors and be met by greeters. They will help get you checked in and introduce you to Junkyard staff who will help get you connected. Feel free to email us ahead of time if you have any questions or just show up and tell the greeters it’s your first time! We can’t wait to meet you soon!

Fill the Gap Coach Sessions

Starting Fall of 2024, we will offer Fill the Gap sessions on the first Wednesday of each month from 7:00-9:00 PM.  Over the last many years, we’ve noticed a huge increase in the need to assist individuals struggling with mental health. Situations that range from severe mental health diagnosis, death in the family, stress or anxiety with school or activity, or any other life crises may leave you wanting time to process. We also know that it can take weeks, or even months, to get an appointment with a healthcare professional. Here at the Ridge, we’ve seen the need and want to Fill the Gap between life experiences and getting in to see a professional. Because of this, we have started a team of gap fillers who are specifically trained in listening well, asking good questions, inviting God in, and casting no judgment.

The Need

Our Junkyard team is full of adults who love Jesus and have a passion to help guide the younger generations through everyday life by freely giving their time to mentor and support them. Below are volunteer opportunities that occur each Wednesday evening.

  • Greeters: Welcome the students to the door and get them checked in for the night. This role can be weekly or bi-weekly and only for thirty minutes.
  • Sponsors: Walk side by side with students every Wednesday night. This role can be for either or both age groups.
  • Food Team: If you have a passion to cook or bake, this team is perfect for you! At various times and commitments throughout the year, Junkyard provides food for students. This team would be an on-call team to help when they can and/or when it’s needed.

If you love Jesus and have a desire for every student to be introduced to Him, reach out to the Junkyard staff as there is always a spot on our team!

The Walk

Similar to confirmation, we offer The Walk to all 9th through 12th graders. It’s an opportunity for youth to learn about God, the Holy Spirit, Jesus, the Church, and the Bible. The Walk takes place mid-January through mid-April.

Summers

During the summers, the Junkyard youth group focuses on serving through mission trips as well as various pop-up events.

Weather Policy

If Ankeny schools cancel classes for the day OR dismiss early due to bad weather, then there will be NO youth group. If bad weather hits after school, we monitor the situation carefully. If we need to cancel after-school releases, we will send an email out and post on Facebook.
